THE ISRAELI GOVERNMENT ISSUED TENDERS FOR TWO PRIVATE SEAPORTS

The Israeli Government issued two international tenders (Wednesday, July 3rd) for the construction and operation of two new private seaports which will compete with the existing Ashdod and Haifa ports. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared the move “the end of monopolies” at the nation’s ports.

The Government has been seeking to bring down the cost of living since large-scale protests in 2011. The private seaports are part of the plan to minimize the Government’s role in the local economy, allow increased private sector involvement and lower labor costs.

The tender is open to Global Operators with expertise and experience in such operations and is subject to a pre-qualification process. The project will be executed based on the BOT model and the foreign entities that are chosen will finance (in part), design, construct, and operate the private ports. The project cost as a whole is estimated at 2.2 billion dollars and the operations and concession period is 25 years. The construction of the ports will be done in cooperation with Israeli companies.

More detailed information and documentation can be obtained at the request of our clients and other interested parties. To pre-qualify, submissions must be delivered no later than October 7th, 2013.
